Resources used in SPACEMATDB

The materials contained in SPACEMATDB reflects the materials used on satellites and launchers.
SPACEMATDB combines data from several sources:

The text in the general section is from ECSS-Q-70-71A: Space product assurance: Data for selection of space materials and processes
The stress corrosion data is from ECSS-Q-ST-70-36C: Space product assurance: Material selection for controlling stress-corrosion cracking
The bimetallic corrosion data is from ECSS-Q-ST-70C: Space product assurance: Materials, mechanical parts and processes

These ECSS standards are published by:
ESA Publications Division
ESTEC, P.O. Box 299,

The Netherlands

The early basic data was compiled and inserted in the ESMAT website database section and later in the ESMDB by the author and is also used in the SPACEMATDB. Addional data comes from real life declared materials lists used in the fabrication of spacecraft.

It is the responsibility of the user to assess the validity and usefulness of the data for the specific project or application.
The final choice of materials shall be made only after careful evaluation by specialists in the field of space materials in accordance with the product assurance requirements. Such effects as process parameters, e.g. mixing ratio, cure and post cure temperatures and humidity conditions, as well as lot variability have to be considered.
In doing this, care shall be taken that all other material properties are compatible with the environments to which they are exposed during all their lifetime, e.g. any terrestrial testing prior to launch, and during the mission.

Whilst every care or reasonable precaution is taken in the preparation and contents of the information of materials in this website, the information of materials in this website is provided "AS IS" and without any warranties of any kind either expressed or implied and the author expressly disclaim all warranties, expressed or implied, including, but not limited to, implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.

Specifically, no warranty or representation is made regarding the use or the results of the use of the information of materials on this website in terms of their correctness or accuracy or reliability.

The author does not warrant or make representation that the various functions as contained in the information of material will be uninterrupted or error-free or that defects will be corrected.
