Resources used in SPACEMATDB

The materials contained in SPACEMATDB reflects the materials used on satellites and launchers.
SPACEMATDB combines data from several sources:

The text in the general section is from ECSS-Q-70-71A: Space product assurance: Data for selection of space materials and processes
The stress corrosion data is from ECSS-Q-ST-70-36C: Space product assurance: Material selection for controlling stress-corrosion cracking
The bimetallic corrosion data is from ECSS-Q-ST-70C: Space product assurance: Materials, mechanical parts and processes

These ECSS standards are published by:
ESA Publications Division
ESTEC, P.O. Box 299,
2200 AG Noordwijk,
The Netherlands

The early basic data was compiled and inserted in the ESMAT website database section and later in the ESMDB by the author and is also used in the SPACEMATDB. Addional data comes from real life declared materials lists used in the fabrication of spacecraft.

NOTICE

It is the responsibility of the user to assess the validity and usefulness of the data for the specific project or application.
The final choice of materials shall be made only after careful evaluation by specialists in the field of space materials in accordance with the product assurance requirements. Such effects as process parameters, e.g. mixing ratio, cure and post cure temperatures and humidity conditions, as well as lot variability have to be considered.
In doing this, care shall be taken that all other material properties are compatible with the environments to which they are exposed during all their lifetime, e.g. any terrestrial testing prior to launch, and during the mission.
