PRODUCT DATA of AA7075-T7351
MaterialAA7075-T7351
Product DatasheetAlcoa 7075 plate and sheet
Alcoa alloy 7075
General InformationThe T7351 temper has a lower tensile and yield strength but improved fracture toughness combined with better stress corrosion resistance than the T6 temper
Processing and AssemblySolution heat treated, stress relieved by stretching a controlled amount (permanent set 1.5 to 3% for sheet and plate, 1 to 3% for rolled or cold finished rod and bar, 1 to 5% for hand or ring forging and rolled ring) and then artificially aged in order to achieve the best stress corrosion resistance. The products recieve no further straightening after stretching
PrecautionsAnodic coatings are widely used for corrosion protection. These coatings may affect the fatigue properties adversely, although the effects are fairly small. The adverse effect is due largely to the precleaning etching treatment, although the coating Itself may also produce some effect. Problems have been found with the black anodising
Hazardous and PrecludedAluminum alloys with a high content of the heavy metals, particularly zinc, as alloying agents are not generally used in applications where a high neutron flux is present, since certain isotopes of these heavier metals exhibit long half lives leaving the part 'hot' for extended periods

RELEVANT PROPERTIES FOR USE IN SPACE COMMUNITY
General Corrosion StatusRequires specific corrosion protection
Atmospheric CorrosionPoor resistance to atmospheric corrosion and should always be protected. Although anodising is possible, the degree of protection it affords is not as great as with other Aluminium alloys, so painting is the recommended treatment.
Stress Corrosion StatusHigh Resistance to SCC: Table 1
Remark: acc. to ECSS-Q-ST-70-36C
Data Quality: Design Data
EMF vs SCE-0.76 V
Bimetallic CorrosionCan be used in a non-controlled environment: Al alloys, Cd
Can be used in a clean room environment: Mg, Sn-Pb alloys (all), Sn, Pb, Zn, Be
Needs specific measures: All others

FLUID SYSTEMS COMPATIBILITY
Gaseous Oxygen (GOX)Meets the mechanical impact requirements. No batch test required.
Liquid Oxygen (LOX)Fails mechanical impact
Nitrogen Tetroxide (N2O4)SCC susceptibility is low and no fluid decomposition
Hydrazine (HDZE)Untested
SPECIAL RECOMMENDATIONS
Special RecommendationsAlthough anodising is possible, the degree of protection it affords is not as great as with other Aluminium alloys, so painting is the recommended treatment
Lessons LearnedIn some cases where the Zn content is at the high end of the composition range, this alloy responds poorly to black anodising.
